Wellesbourne Wanderers FC Under 10`s Fixture Result and Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
23/1/2010 League Wellesbourne U10s 1 v 1 Alveston

So a late change of venue means that Wellesbourne have to play away again due to a waterlogged pitch at Moreton Hall.

Alveston kick off but Wellesboure are quick to the tackle and start pressing in the first couple of minutes but to no avail. James tracks back well to challenge and wins the ball, keeps it in, and turns defence into attack. He finds Ed just outside the box, a quick jink and Ed sets up Vaughan for a powerful shot but he is just wide.

Marcus picks up the goal kick and finds Henry, quick feet and he passes inside to Ed but the defender gets in a good block. The pattern of the game is set with Wellesbourne having lots of possession but Alveston looking threatening on the break. The only problem with this is Alan having to run up and down in his own box to keep warm!

James again picks up the loose ball and forages forward, deep into Alveston’s half. He finds Ed and a neat pass to Henry is cut out for a corner. Alveston half clear but only as far as Vaughan who lets fly but it is just wide again.

Alveston break clear and James is again the first to spot the danger and clears for a corner. The corner is a good one and has Wellesbourne worried but it clears everyone and goes out for a throw to Wellesbourne. Henry breaks away from his marker down the right and his pace takes him clear, he gets a cross in but again the shot from Vaughan is just past the post.

Alveston build a good attack and a last ditch tackle by Tom stops the shot but it’s a free kick to Alveston. Central position and just outside the box, the wall will have to stand strong and brave here. Alveston take a short one but Tom spots the danger and gets a good challenge in before they get a shot away.

Marcus then sets Olly away down the left wing and he finds Henry on the edge of the box. Two defenders close in and scramble it away. The feeling on the touchline is that Wellesbourne need to make their possession count with a goal.

Olly again breaks away and his pace beats the first defender but he cannot pick out Henry this time. Olly, Colia and Barnaby are working really hard to track back and cover the break but Alveston break clear and a last ditch tackle from Marcus sees it out for another corner. Again, it sails over everyone but any touch could have seen a goal.

Wellesbourne are passing and moving really well but cannot find the killer pass or shot to get the break through. They keep good possession from Alan to Tom, on to Ed and he is brought down from behind. It is a long way out but Alveston make a wall and look a bit nervy. They needn’t have worried as Ed curls it over the wall and with great precision finds the top corner. 1-0 Wellesbourne and this is no more than their pressure deserves.

There is time for one last attack before half time and with great skill and a quick turn Barnaby picks up Colia’s pass and makes a break down the right. Olly busts his lungs to get up in support but the cross is cut out and the ref blows for half time.

Alveston start the second half strongly and have an early chance from the edge of the box. Alex is equal to the challenge and turns it round the post for a corner. This is a better cross into the box and Wellesbourne struggle to clear their lines. A fierce shot looks goal-bound but Alex makes a great reaction save. It falls to Alveston and again the shot is on target but Alex is back on his feet to block again but it is too strong to hold and the third shot in a few seconds looks like the equaliser but yet again Alex throws himself to turn it round the post. Great keeping.

Tom clears to Vaughan who makes good ground down the right. He slips a great pass to Ed who bears down on goal but his cross shot is just wide with the keeper well beaten.

The pattern this half is the reverse of the first with Alveston looking strong and Wellesbourne tiring a little. The midfield are working hard to cover back but Alveston look threatening with every attack. Colia breaks away and finds Henry who turns sharply and beats two more defenders. He does not see Ed free on the left and the keeper makes a good stop.

Alveston are pressing down their right and get the ball in the middle, Alex comes out to save but the goal is empty as Alveston keep possession. Thankfully Tom is back on the line to clear. The pressure is almost constant and they cross again from the right, Tom makes a block, then Marcus and Alex but Olly cannot stop the third effort as Alveston sustain their attack and get the equaliser.

Wellesboure are playing better now and regain some composure and Olly sets Henry away but his shot is well saved. Some great work by Alveston and they draw Alex off his line, the shot is on target but Tom and Olly are again on the line to cover back and Tom clears upfield.

Both teams are defending solidly now and the final whistle blows with the score at 1-1. Probably a fair result, with Wellesbourne bossing the first half but Alveston coming back very strongly in the second half.
