Wellesbourne Wanderers FC Under 11`s Fixture Result and Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
24/1/2010 League Wellesbourne U11 7 v 0 St Peters Celtic

Coaches Verdict - great to be back and back with a bang. A comfortable win with the boys getting a chance to show the improvement that has been evident in the past few weeks of training.
A full squad of 16 meant many substitutions and changes of position but credit to the lads as we kept good shape to our play throughout. Pleasing to see some good well worked goals coming as a result of good team play.
A special welcome to Josh Bloomfield making his debut today and an impressive debut it was!
Well done boys, keep working hard and we will keep going forward and improving as a team.
Wellesbourne Wanderers v St Peter’s Celtic
Sunday 24 January 2010 at Moreton Hall, Moreton Morrell.
Team at Kick off:
GK Toby, Defence John, Aidan, Jordan, Tommy, Mid Field Sam, Callum, Michael, Leo, Forwards Nick & Scott. Subs Josh, Joe, Tom J, Fraizer, Matthew. Everyone played.

Today, a sight for sore eyes, a full squad of sixteen players! They were all raring to go after such a long lay-off due to weather, holiday and more weather! Our last match was on the 12th December 2009, and my last report was on the 8th November 2009.

Kick-off at 2.06 on a bright, cloudy day, and Wanderers set off smartly to attack the Celtic half. They obviously had taken note of their Coaches on the practice pitch and were playing a neat, controlled, passing game. Sam was outstanding in the attack with a neat pass to Leo who was in a shooting position – unfortunately the ball went out. Wanderers were pressing well with some good combinations and the Defence was equally well drilled cutting off a Celtic attack with some style.
Wanderers pushed forward with some precise passing, and Nick, Leo and Scott combined to reach the Celtic box, and on six minutes Scott scored to put Wanderers 1-0 up.
Wanderers were pretty well sitting in Celtic’s half, continuing to play a good passing game, and making good use of both wings. Another combination between Nick, Leo and Scott, five minutes after the first goal resulted in Scott skilfully tapping the ball in, giving Wanderers a 2-0 lead.
Celtic were not beaten, of course, and continued to make sporadic raids into Wanderers half, but the Defence remained very solid with everyone playing their part with some well-timed interceptions and some accurate distribution of the ball.
Seventeen minutes into the first half, and Wanderers broke out from defence, the ball being passed out to Nick, who made a superb solo run, straight at the Celtic goal and slotted the ball neatly past their goalkeeper. Score now 3-0, and the Wanderers’ Supporters were cheering the team on for more.
Almost immediately afterwards Celtic’s Goalkeeper saved a shot from Leo and two minutes after that another attack sliced through the Celtic defence and I really don’t know how the ball didn’t cross the line.
Darren was making good use of having a full squad and was rotating players well. It is significant that at the substitutions there was no obvious change to the shape of the team – Substitutes fitted in easily, and maintained the flow of the team play.
On 22 minutes Celtic were attacking quite forcefully, but their forward movement was snuffed out by a neat tackle by Josh, which then lead to another Wanderers attack and a very near miss by Joe. Almost immediately after that, another Wanderers attack, and another goal, this time scored by Sam. 4-0.
Celtic livened up quite a bit and sat in Wanderers half for a while, but the team defending was absolutely solid. Wanderers pushed out, but Celtic held them and came back again, and Wanderers returned the compliment gaining a free kick, which was taken by Jordan – the ball whistled just over the bar, and heralded the arrival of half time and, so far, a clean sheet.

The second half -kicked-off at 2.45 p.m. For the first two or three minutes play moved either side of the half-way line until Celtic suddenly pushed forward and fired off a shot on goal. Wanderers attacked from the resulting goal kick with a very positive approach, but in Celtic’s box the attackers ‘fell over’ each other. They got full marks for eagerness but no score!
In this early period both teams were falling foul of the offside rule, which, of course, is new to them and causes major problems, even in the Premiership!
On six minutes Wanderers progressed down the pitch in Celtic’s half with a couple of throws in, but Celtic broke out and came close enough to Wanderers goal to have a shot which was just off target. Three minutes later the attacking flow reversed and Wanderers swept down the pitch ending in a very well taken goal by Nick. Score 5-0.
Celtic were sporadically dangerous, but Wanderers had grown in confidence, especially in defence, and they were more than adequate in dealing with Celtic’s attacks. Four minutes after the last score, Leo made a fine run down the left wing, put across and excellent ball, but nobody could get on the end of it. Ah well!
Celtic attacked again and John made a fine block to get Wanderers moving but the game was to-ing and fro-ing and Wanderers were beginning to look a little tired. So too were Celtic, who must be given some credit for keeping their heads up and not giving in. They were dangerous in flashes.
Twenty minutes into the second half Toby kicked the ball out to Jordan who made a spirited solo run, he had a tussle with Celtic’s goalkeeper but he got his foot to the ball and it rolled over the line. Beautiful! 6-0.
Three minutes later Wanderers made two attacks in rapid succession, right down to Celtic’s goal line, and there was no score from either! Celtic were scrambling the ball away rather desperately.
The game culminated, almost on full time, with a typical rapid run by Leo down the left wing with an accurate cross which was put into the back of Celtic’s net by Scott to gain his hat-trick. Score line 7-0 and the final whistle followed soon after.
An absolutely cracking game thoroughly enjoyed by the Wanderers Squad and their Coaches, together with assorted friends and relatives who support them throughout the Season. We came away with some very positive thoughts – three points, a clean sheet, a growth in confidence and a feeling that much of the coaching is working its way through from the training ground on to the pitch. Oh yes – some more work on the offside rule! Well done Squad, and well done Darren and Andy. Having said all of that our future opponents will give us a much tougher time. We cannot rest on our laurels.
