Wellesbourne Wanderers FC Under 11`s Fixture Result and Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
21/2/2010 League Balsall & Berkswell 1 v 5 Wellesbourne U11

Coaches Verdict - today was a step forward in terms of concentration and confidence. Started the game slowly but recovered well to come back to 1-1 at half time. I felt a real turning point in the game was when Josh threw his body across the goal line to block a certain goal which would have taken B&B into a 2-1 lead (typical of his & the teams performance). From that moment on we dominated.
2nd half was full of confidence backed up with great effort and every player stayed focused on the job. As soon as the 2nd goal came you could see the team lift and from then on we didnt look back! Some surging defence splitting runs by Nick were causing real problems for our opponents and Tom Jackson picked up a well deserved hat-trick.
Another step forward on the journey for WW's, what we have to do now is make sure the next step is in the same direction. With the same level of application next week I am sure it will be. All in all a great day and a performance to be proud of.
Some might say BETTER THAN WATCHING THE VILLA!!
Wellesbourne Wanderers v Balsall & Berkswell
Sunday 21 February 2010 at Moreton Hall.
Team at Kick off:
GK John, Defence Josh, Aidan, Michael, Tommy, Mid Field Callum, Nick, Jordan, Matthew, Forwards Scott & Tom J. Subs Fraizer, Joe. Everyone played.

Kick-off at 3.20. p.m. on a bright, sunny, but rather cold, day. For the first five minutes BB’s sat in Wanderers half, but our defence was very steady, and on six minutes Wanderers broke out from defence to attack the BB’s goal. Nothing came of that and the BBs counter-attacked – one of their attackers struck the ball hard and true and scored despite John getting fingertips to the ball. Seven minutes and the score 0-1.

Wanderers were a bit surprised to be one down, but the next passage of play featured some very neat and accurate passing, culminating in a movement with Nick, Jordan and Scott. Scott’s shot was on target but BBs Goalie was up to the mark, and the ball was well held.

The next few minutes the game moved between the two halves, and I got the feeling that Wanderers were steadily taking the initiative.

On 12 minutes Wanderers put BBs under pressure and won a corner, and then a throw-in. During this passage of play no less than five Wanderers shots were blocked. A minute later, Wanderers attacked down the right hand side, and after two rebounds Tom J scored. The equaliser was the end result of a very good combined effort of the Team as a whole. Score 1-1.

From the kick-off both sides were working hard with Wanderers attempting to maintain a good passing game. BBs kept attacking but Wanderers defence seemed to be gaining the ascendancy with sterling work
by Aidan, Josh, Michael and Tommy.

Wanderers’ attack was switching from one wing to the other in a display of great determination to get another goal. However, BBs countered and a cracking shot flew towards Wanderers goal, where John was superb in goal, and put off the BBs shot.

From John’s goal kick BBs attacked again and this time Josh put in another top class block. Wanderers kept pushing, steadily moving down the right wing via a series of throws in. This move culminated in a wonderful cross from Nick but nobody got on to the end of it. What a pity! Half time arrived and the score was 1-1 in a fairly tight first half.

Second half kicked off at 4 o’clock, and Wanderers literally launched themselves into the game. They attacked down the right wing. The ball was centred and we almost scored but Joe couldn’t make contact by a whisker. Lucky BBs!

Wanderers were operating well in all departments, accurate passing, and some well-executed moves, backed up by absolutely stalwart defending. Six minutes into the game Wanderers made a wonderful break down the left hand side ending in Nick’s cross being well struck by Jordan who hit the bar! One of these shots will have to go in soon, and at this point Wanderers seemed to be controlling the game much better. Despite that BBs gained a corner. However, Wanderers broke out again, and after a skirmish in BBs goalmouth, Tom J scored to the delight of Wanderers’ Supporters. Score 2-1.

A couple of minutes later BBs were in a position to take a good shot at Wanderers goal, but once again John’s excellent goal keeping saved the day, and from his goal kick, Wanderers were attacking once more, culminating in a near miss shot, just over BBs goal.

Just over 11 minutes Aidan broke up a BBs attack with a very decisive tackle, and Wanderers countered again with a shot by Jordan saved. I am now convinced that Wanderers are on top of things, and just to prove it BBs goal keeper booted the ball out – it was stopped by Jordan whose return shot whistled sweetly into the goal Score now 3-1.

BBs had another go but Frazier made three important tackles to get Wanderers away again, and following a good team effort Wanderers gained another goal neatly tapped in by Tom J to complete his hat-trick. Score 4-1 and we are now halfway through the second half.

Josh and Aidan have figured well, with their fellow defenders, and Nick has had an outstanding game, but all as part of a well functioning team, and on 24 minutes Wanderers scored another goal via Michael whose long range effort nestled into the bottom corner of the net. Score 5-1 & the Team were now enjoying themselves (who wouldn’t with this score line) and were persistently attacking producing a number of near miss shots.

The final whistle went after three and a half minutes of extra time. The score line really was a true reflection of Wanderers ability and teamwork today, and we all went home, Supporters and Team alike, on a high and with a better score line than Aston Villa!
