Wellesbourne Wanderers FC Under 11`s Fixture Result and Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
7/3/2010 League Wellesbourne U11 3 v 2 Wulstan Dynamos

Coaches verdict - very pleased with a really gutsy performance against one of our closest rivals. Today I think we just about edged the game and to our credit kept pushing forward till the last seconds which ultimately brought us the winning goal. Confidence is high and this seems to be giving the lads the self belief to play the football that we all know they can.
A very tired bunch of boys finished the game having left everything they had out on the pitch. This is great credit to the team spirit we now have and 3 points is worthy reward.
Thanks to Wulstan for another epic encounter between 2 closely matched teams. Good luck to them for the rest of the season.
Wellesbourne Wanderers v Wulstan Dynamos.
Sunday 7 March 2010 at Moreton Hall.
Team at Kick Off:
GK Toby, Defence, Josh, Aidan, Frazier, Mid Field Sam, Callum, Michael, Leo, John, Forwards, Jordan & Scott. Sub, Tom J. Everyone played.

Today we won 14 – 0!! That’s not true and wouldn’t it have been a boring game if it were? But, now I’ve got your attention, please read on.

On our home ground and in almost perfect conditions for a football match – a warmish, bright sunny day with only a slight breeze - against Wulstan Dynamos who have beaten us 4 – 1 on our last two outings with them. What a challenge!!
Kick off at two thirty and Wanderers press forward at a lively pace. Play stayed in Dynamos’ half for a while but their number 7 led a quick raid into Wanderers’ territory and his attempt at goal went just outside Wanderers’ right hand post. This was followed by a Wanderers attack down their left wing; they gained a corner, but no goal. The ball went out for a Wanderers throw in and from that, the ball came to Scott, he passed to Jordan whose shot unfortunately went wide.

Honours were even at this point, but Dynamos attacked immediately with accurate passes, and they produced a first class shot which whistled by Toby and there we go – they scored. Eight minutes in, score 0-1.

Wanderers bounced back immediately and had a shot on goal, instantly followed up by another go but no score from either. About a minute later Jordan tried another distance shot from the inside left position, but no go.

Despite being a goal down, and the Dynamos defence being on good form, Wanderers kept their heads up and passed the ball well. Fourteen minutes into the game a Dynamos attack fizzled out, but at the moment they are on the up. In particular their two central defenders are getting to any long balls and booting them straight back again. Two minutes later, from a Dynamos corner, the ball came out to one of their Forwards who tried another speculative shot which went over the bar – but only just.

Eighteen minutes in Wanderers have a throw in and from that attacked down the left hand side with interplay between Leo and Jordan, and an excellent shot from Jordan made the back of Dynamos goal bulge. Absolute delight from Supporters and Players alike. Score line 1-1.

Now the game really is up for grabs, first Wanderers attack down the right hand side, but Dynamos countered – the ball went out and Wanderers throw in prompts another attack. The game moved rapidly backwards and forwards with both teams having some good moments.

Twenty six minutes and Wanderers break out again with some good team possession ending in a shot by Jordan, but no goal. Immediately after this Sam popped up on the right hand side of the field, pushed forward at great speed, and struck a cracking shot on goal which was well saved by Dynamos Goalie.

The game continued with both sides fighting their corner right up to the half time whistle, and the score remained at 1-1.

Just after the second half kickoff, Wanderers had a free kick but Dynamos won the ball and during this attack had a good shot on goal, but Toby was up to the mark – well saved Toby! Aidan, Josh and Frazier defended extremely well and the mid field Sam, Callum, Michael and Leo, with John ahead of them were frequently keeping the ball to themselves, frequently denying Dynamos possession. Despite this, three minutes into the second half Dynamos forced three consecutive corners, but they were all well defended, and a couple of minutes later Wanderers were attacking in Dynamos penalty area. They were awarded a penalty which was coolly taken by Scott, giving the Dynamos goal keeper no chance. Score line, after five minutes, 2-1.

There followed a slower period of the game for two or three minutes. Wanderers were first to liven up and attacked the Dynamos goal, but Dynamos countered after a good save by their Goalie.
Wanderers returned to the fray, but twelve minutes into the second half Dynamos were awarded a free kick and they attacked in numbers, but Wanderers kept them out. Within a couple of minutes Dynamos were given another free kick well in Wanderers half, from which they scored their second goal to even the match. Score line 2 – 2.

After sixteen minutes Wanderers attacked very quickly with Scott, Leo and Jordan linking well together - they came close to scoring but ............ Two minutes later Callum won the ball, passed well to Leo, whose shot unfortunately went wide of the goal. Another minute and Dynamos attack, again, they gained a throw in and from that took a good shot at goal, which was well saved by Toby. The ball went out to Jordan who led yet another attack into Dynamos territory. Wanderers’ heads were still held high – they took a corner but the ball was scrambled out, and one minute later they attacked again down the right wing. Dynamos came back but Wanderers scrambled the ball out and pushed on down the right hand side. Scott went down – Jordan took the free kick, which went into the Dynamos side netting. Leo won a corner but nothing doing, and by my watch, we had only one minute to go. At this point Leo collected the ball and made a determined and skilful run down the left wing, he cut in a little, put the ball across to Jordan who placed it perfectly for Scott to slot the ball into Dynamos’ goal. The score line was 3 – 2. The final whistle went immediately.
The Team were delighted, Wanderers Supporters were delighted, and I don’t know if the Coach did his little dance – I was too busy doing my own!

What a game! We must give every credit to Dynamos who battled well and helped create one of the most exciting games this season. However, we must make special mention of all of our Squad who worked so hard and displayed some superb flashes of good football. Teamwork and a very creditable passing game were the order of the day. Well done the Players and well done Andy and Darren.
