Wellesbourne Wanderers FC Under 12`s Fixture Result and Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
7/2/2010 Cup Wellesbourne U12s 1 v 2 Kenilworth Town

At last a game ! After 8 weeks without one it was great to get a game....

We welcomed Town in the cup - which was a bit ironic as the last game we played was at home against them. We started like we had not played for 2 months (which of course we hadnt) and in the first few minutes we were at sixes and sevens and the visiting crashed a shot against the cross bar - which bounced down and was cleared to safety.

Having survived the scare, Bourne started to find their legs and got the passing game going and it was visible as the boys remembered what it took to play a game of footy...

The 2 league games between these teams had been close, and this match was proving the teams were well matched. Jamie made a good save and then almost immediately the Town made a crowd pleasing save springing one handed across his goal.

Bourne couldnt quite force the ball in and a couple of occasions the ball just passed the wrong side of the post. Half time and a scoreless half.

Second half, and Bourne were well ontop creating some good chances. The best of which was a four player move, with Tomo passing in Jake who found Charlie and his cross was met by Willo, but he couldnt quite direct his header and it just went past the post.

Debutant Big Olli (from now on known as Ollio) created a couple of chances resulting in shots, but he couldnt place it past the impressive TOwn keeper.

On 10 mins Town had their first attack of the half and it looked like Bourne had withstood it, but for some reason one of the Bourne players elected to push over an attacker as we cleared the ball. A clear penalty which was scored. Game on... Welles responded with more pressure and from one these a cross was handled and the 2nd penalty of the game was scored by Charlie despite the keeper nearly saving it.
Jamie made a super double save (despite him having has trackie bottoms coming down with the mud)
Our defensive line looked strong, as Jack, and Chris marked their front lads and Tom was picking up all the loose balls and distributing some good passes.
Kenilworths winner came with 8 mins left, when a powerful shot was scored from outside of the box into the top corner.

More pressure from Bourne but we couldnt force an equaliser.

At the end both teams congratulated each other on a competitive game of football that was played with no quarter asked or given but played in a good spirit.

Ok - hugely disappointed to lose a game, that we really shouldnt have - but I was so pleased with the way we played and passed and moved the ball and I enjoyed our attitude and commitment.

I can see improvement in the all the lads, my big learning point for the next few weeks will be about being more proactive and anticiapting things rather than letting them happen (and when is it accetable to push someone over - the correct answer is never of course !).

Overall well done.

POST NOTE: really sorry to read about young Alex from Bobs team, the team and I wish him a speedy recovery.
