COACHES VERDICT: Well played to Leek Wootton who never gave up,well run friendly club. We looked rusty first 15 minutes, but after that some very good passing football ensured we kept control. Everyone contributed, Alex,Harry & Ben superb,Matt liked the chip pass to George. At times our football was excellent. (Maybe a little more width in our play when attacking ? )
WELL DONE LADS!! |
After a long break due to the weather and the Christmas Period, Bourne returned to action with a tricky away fixture against Leek Wooton. Bourne were playing downhill in the first half and due to the slope, they were eager to take an advantage into the break as the second half would be much tougher uphill. Bourne lined up with Cuttsy in goal and Jamie, Marcus, Franks and Alex at the back. Harry and Sam were in the middle with Harry holding and Rav and Ciaran on the wings. Ben and Jack were up front. For the first time in ages, Bourne had a full compliment of subs with James Connolly, George, Matt and Will warming the bench. Moments in, Ben’s pace was evident as he ran through one on one – unfortunately the Wooton Keeper was alert and came out to block his effort. Bourne were controlling the game and had all the possession in the Wooton area however, it was the hosts who struck first. A mazy run from the Wooton forward saw him skip past 3 or 4 players and as he sprinted into the area, he was too quick for our defence and he was tripped for a clear penalty. Cuttsy was close but couldn’t stop the shot and the home side led 1-0. Bourne stepped up their game and shook off any rustiness they may have shown early on. Alex was a different class down the left and set up an attack with a defence splitting pass. Harry had a shot well saved from the edge of the area as Bourne pressed for an equaliser. Bob brought all 4 subs on as Bourne continued to pile on the pressure. Sam shot over and excellent determination from Ben forced a corner. Sam’s corner was whipped and Harry reacted quickest to sweep home a left footed shot into the roof of the net. It was no more than Bourne deserved and they now had the momentum to get more goals. George and Jack linked up well with some great passing moves and matt and Sam also split open the defence with precision passing. Ben and Sam both went close but were thwarted by the Keeper before Bourne won a free kick 30 yards out. Cries of ‘top left’ could be heard from the sidelines and Sam duly obliged curling the ball over the Keeper’s head into the top corner to make it 2-1. Soon after, the half time whistle blew and Bourne had their advantage to take into the second half. Although uphill, Bourne continued the second half as they’d ended the first and nearly made it 3 from another corner. Harry headed over the bar from close range after another superb delivery from Sam. Moments later it was 3-1 as Alex made a fantastic run down the left before laying off an inch perfect pass for Jack – he was 8 yards out and did what he does best by slotting home. Bourne now had a comfortable lead and started to pass the ball around with confidence. All the players were getting involved and Ciaran, Harry & Rav all went close. George’s effort deserved a goal but his effort was well saved as well. Jack made it 4-1 from close range later in the game and although Leek Wooton tried hard, Bourne coped easily enough and saw the game out, not before Alex went on another flying run up the wing, only to see his shot go wide of the post. The final whistle blew and Bourne had played well in tough circumstances. Match Stats: Shots on Target 17, Shots off Target 7, Corners 7
