Date Type Team S v S Team
13/2/2010 League Wellesbourne U10s 1 v 0 St Peters Celtic

Wellesbourne start quickly and Ed finds Henry for the first chance but the Celtic keeper saves well. Vaughan is first to the goal kick and Olly challenges well, the ball breaks to James C and his shot is on target but the keeper gets down well to save.

Wellesbourne are dominating possession and the passing and movement is pleasing on the eye. The midfield are tracking up and back well to support Henry and help out Marcus and Vaughan at the back.

Marcus coolly dribbles past two and releases James C down the left, a deft pass inside finds Henry who tees up Ed but the keeper is in good form and saves again.

The clearance is headed straight back up-field by Vaughan, Olly finds Ed and a great through ball puts Henry in on goal but the Celtic keeper is having a blinder and saves well again. Surely the passing and possession will produce a goal but the keeper has been there every time so far.

Marcus is in control at the back and picks out another good pass to Ed who flicks it on to Henry but the defender gets a challenge in for a Wellesbourne corner. James C floats it in and Henry is first to the header but it flies just wide.

James combines well with Christian and Chris picks out a great pass to James P who dummies the defender but his shot is just wide.

Celtic have looked dangerous on the break but Marcus and Vaughan have had everything covered. This time they break clean through and Alan has to be on his toes and saves well for a corner. Vaughan covers the near post and Wellesbourne break out but the half time whistle goes before they can get forward.
Wellesbourne start the second half as they did the first and have the majority of early possession. Olly finds Ed and he beats two players to set up Henry but the keeper makes yet another save. James C then finds Ed and his pass to Henry is sweetly timed, Henry beats the defender but drags his shot just wide this time.

Celtic have a rare break and Alex is called into action twice in quick succession. He is quickly off his line to smother at the feet of the Celtic striker and then a more straightforward save from a long shot.

James C makes good ground down the left and a lovely interchange with Ed who crosses to Henry, he is closed down quickly but the ball break across the edge of the box. Olly has been tracking the play and beats the defender to the first touch, good control and then he lets fly and finds the top right hand corner with an absolute belter! Finally the deadlock is broken. 1-0 Wellesbourne and this is no more than their possession and passing deserve.

Ed is everywhere in midfield and he attacks down the right. Chris takes up a great position on the bye line and Ed’s pass is accurate, Chris takes one touch before setting it back perfectly for Barnaby to strike first time. He is really unlucky not to make it two as the keeper is well beaten but the ball cannons back off the bar. Chris then breaks clear but his shot skims the post and goes wide. Celtic break clear again and Vaughan tracks the run and Alex comes out to drop on the ball bravely again. Wellesbourne are not quite as tight and Celtic attack again. They carve out a clear opening and are through on goal but Alex comes to the rescue again.

Wellesbourne see out the remaining minutes for a well deserved victory. One of the best performances this season so far with great passing. Vaughan played out of his usual position with great discipline at the back and a great goal for Olly.
