6/12/2009 League Cup Wellesbourne U11 1 v 4 Wulstan Dynamos

Coaches verdict - I am getting a little sick of saying how unlucky we are, how we didn't deserve to loose, how things didn't go our way, it just wasn't our day, etc. Today we simply weren't good enough and soon we must start to look at ourselves and where we are going wrong. One week we are outstanding and the next we are loosing to teams that really we should be beating.
I think that Wulstan, although deserving of their win, must have thought it was Christmas day already as we quite literally handed them the victory. If we cannot learn to head the ball or attack the ball from long goal kicks then we will always conceed goals no matter who the opposition are.
Special mention has to go to Nick, who at times single handedly took the game to Wulstan and Aidan who consistently tried his best to keep Wulstan at bay.
Again we showed signs of what can be but we have to do better defensively if we are to take anything from the remainder of the season.
Wellesbourne Wanderers U11’s versus Wulstan Dynamos U11’s
6th December 2009
Team: Toby (G), Tom, Fraizer, Aidan, Michael, John, Callum, Leo, Jordan, Nick, Tom and Matthew

Right from the kick-off Wellesbourne apply all the early pressure without converting it into a goal. But Wulstan continue to threaten.
On 20 mins Nick dissects the Wulstan defence with a pin-point pass to Tom who shoots just wide, unlucky.
22 mins, more accurate passing finds Nick in the box, whose scything shot opens the scoring, 1:0 to Wellesbourne.
25 mins, against the run of play Wulstan break out of mid-field, into the Wellesbourne box and their #8 finds the back of the net, 1:1.
30+2 mins, more great passing down the left, Callum to Jordan, has Wellesbourne again threatening the Wulstan goal and an entertaining first half ends with a flourish.

The second half kicks off; on 2 mins a long ball through the middle finds a Wulstan attacker whose shot rebounds in off the post, 1:2.
3 mins, a penalty to Wellesbourne is not converted.
5 mins, yet another long ball through the middle and its 1:3.
8 mins, a penalty to Wulstan is converted, 1:4.
10 mins, Wellesbourne start to find their rhythm again, Jordan is released through the middle but his shot is well saved by the Wulstan keeper.
11 mins, Michael finds Nick whose looping cross is unlucky not to find a Wellesbourne head.
13 mins, same again, Wellesbourne are now looking the more likely team to score.
14 mins, excellent defensive work from Wellesbourne, a cracking tackle from Aidan halts a dangerous Wulstan move.
16 mins, Wulstan break down the left, but more great covering from Matthew and Aidan stop them in their tracks.
22 mins, Wulstan are on top, another attack is stopped by Tom who brings the ball out of defence only to be brought down by a cynical challenge. John finds Jordan from the resulting free kick, whose shot smacks against the Wulstan bar. Wellesbourne are not getting the rub of the green.
29 mins, Wulstan respond, but Toby pulls off a lunging save and Tom clears the danger.
The final whistle blows with the score 1:4 to Wulstan.
