I am pleased with the win - surprised at the scoreline - but what pleased me the most was the way we did the simple things that we practice at training and then put them into the match situation.
The pitch was in excellent condition and the grass cut to a length that was conducive to a passing game.
The game was only a few minutes old, when it was lit with a home goal through a stunning 30 yard screamer into the roof of the net - Jamie had no chance as it was unstoppable.
Throughout the season the boys have never dropped their heads and so it was on Sunday. We forced a few corners and from one of these, it was Ollie T who on the edge of the box timed a left foot volley and only a great save from the home keeper stopped it going in. However, there was Will H, following in and he buried the ball into the net.
Not long after, a through ball had the home defence in trouble as Ollie M battled away and in good striker style, Charlie was in the right place to stab the ball home.
Half time, and I emphasised the points of keeping it simple and pass and move. For 10 mins Khalsa came out fired up and forced the Bourne back. For me the defence were outstanding as Chris, Ollie T and Jack (and Roo in the first half) absorbed the pressure and Jamie was in confident form.
The 3rd goal was probably our best, when a number of passes were made involving Harry, Josh and Charlie which released Ollie M and he coolly finished with a great shot into the net. His first for the team and one that his Mum clearly enjoyed !
After his first the 2nd came quickly as Ollie M scored again, Will H followed up with another finish for his 2nd and he nearly got a third (Dad was well excited) . The final goal came when Step hit a shot from a corner and another decent save from the keeper was forced home by Will T for his 2nd goal for the club.
As the 2nd half progressed, the boys visibly grew with confidence and they started to do the things that I know they can do. They were able to get the ball down and pass into space, where runners were working off the ball. The defending (from the front back) was sharp and positive.
The trick now is to bottle up all the good stuff and uncork it at the start of the next few games. If only it was that easy !
