COACHES VERDICT: Well done to Kenilworth who out battled us and deserved the win. I hope the lad who was injured is ok as Wellesbourne Players are never coached in any form of foul play. Now to us, Franklin had a great game and the rest of the defence were o.k. Midfield we did not have one at times. Forwards not good at all. George forget about the two goals you did well to go in. The defeat should make most of you realise you have to WIN THE BALL to be able to play ! Maybe with my Voice Gone and a change of formation too soon didn't help (Blame me?)
Only one defeat Boys, Cheer up, I am probably more diappointed than you ! Bob |
Last season, Kenilworth came to Bourne and left with a 5-1 victory, something which did not go down very well. This year Bourne were looking to seek some revenge and maintain their 100% record in the league. The Arctic wind was strong and after a night of rain, the pitch was heavy leaving difficult playing conditions. Bourne lined up with Cuttsy in goal, Alex at left back, Franklyn and Harry at the back with Jamie at right back. George in Sam were in the middle of the park and Rav and James Connolly were on the wings. Jack and Marcus lined up at the front. Bourne started well with some good play from Sam forcing a corner from which George saw an effort blocked. Jack then did well to lay off Marcus but his effort was blocked. At the other end, Harry made a good tackle but Kenilworth were starting to build some pressure. Franklyn made a great block but Ken were on top and a goal looked ominously close. Ciaran came on for George and Will came on for Alex. Cuttsy then produced a fine save to keep the game at 0-0. Franklyn made another great tackle but the clever striker nipped in front of Franklyn drawing a foul for which the Ref awarded a penalty. Up stepped the Ken striker who smashed the ball home leaving Cuttsy with no chance. 1-0 to Ken and Bourne now needed to show what they were made of to get back on level terms. At the other end, Rav dribbled past his marker before crossing for Jack who just couldn’t get his header in. The whistle blew for half time and Bourne trudged off through the mud to see Bob for the half time team talk. The first half had been difficult but some of Bourne’s players had gone missing allowing Ken to boss the game. The second half was going to have to be different if Bourne wanted to continue unbeaten. They started well and Marcus crossed well for Jack who headed over the bar. Ken then shot over before Cuttsy was forced into another fine save. Ken were winning the 50/50’s and Bourne could not clear the ball. Too often the defence had no choice but to lump the ball forward before seeing it come straight back again. The midfield needed to put in a shift to break up the play and Ciaran battled away winning the ball in three separate tackles. Unfortunately Bourne could not keep up the momentum and Ken were back on top. Bourne attempted to rally and James Connolly had a couple of efforts go wide from long distance but Bourne couldn’t break through. Bob brought Cuttsy out and George went in goal for the remainder of the game. Cuttsy tried hard but the ball wouldn’t fall in front of goal and moments later Kenilworth struck the killer blow. A great flowing move was finished off with a fine finish leaving George with no chance. Marcus shot wide and Ciaran saw an effort saved but Ken hit us on the break and slotted home a third. They then scored a fourth only for it to be eventually ruled out for offside. Bourne heads were well and truly down now and with a three goal deficit they played the game out until the final whistle. Bob gave the lads a lesson in not being complacent before giving them a taster of their re-match with Kenilworth in a few weeks. Bourne now officially have a bogey side and will be looking to reverse their fortunes in the return game at Kenilworth. Match stats: 6 on target, 6 off target, 5 corners
