COACHES VERDICT: Ten Players! SUPERB. SUPERB. SUPERB.
Ben's hatrick simply outstanding but it would be wrong to single out one player as everyone dug deep and played to instruction. Alex watched, The Southam Players & Staff were great with their presentation which is what all sports should be about!

WELL DONE LADS, I am having a drink tonight on that performance.
Sorry for the delay everyone – I’ve been busy dreaming about Alex’s signed photos from Stevie G and El Niño!!
Anyway, Bourne lined up with 10 men against a strong Southam team. this time in the league. It was an important game for Bourne who had many players missing through injury and illness. Bourne lined up with Cuttsy in goal, Will at left back, Harry reverting back to centre back alongside Franks with Jay at right back. Marcus, James Connolly, Sam and Matt held the midfield with Ben up front. Bourne started strongly and seemed well up for the battle – putting the pressure on from the start with James shooting just wide. Marcus then had a shot saved before Harry slid in well at the other end to make an important block. Further good work from the defence allowed Sam some freedom in the middle. He picked out Ben with a superb pass and Ben ran thru to make it 1-0. A fantastic all round goal and a great finish from Ben gave the home side a deserved lead. Bourne were buoyed by the goal and continued to threaten – with Ben battling and chasing every lost cause and James trying his luck from distance. Bourne were in complete control and just before half time, the pressure paid off as Bourne doubled their advantage. A fine pass from James Connolly set Ben free again – this time he had work to do but he weaved around the defender and smashed the ball home to make it 2-0. Ben and Bourne were on fire and as the whistle blew for half time, the lads ran off to an ovation from the home fans - probably the best first half display of the season. Bob’s task was easy at half time – ‘more of the same lads – keep it up’. On the other hand, Southam must have had a different half time talk as they came out firing in the second half. Immediate pressure from the opposition made life tough for Bourne and they pulled one back to set up a tense second half. Jay, Franks, Haz and Will were kept busy over the next few minutes and they fought hard to keep their lead in tact. Southam’s pressure finally paid off and they equalised with about 20 minutes to go. Southam had the momentum and looked as though they had scored a third but for a spectacular save from Cuttsy tipping over the bar from a close range shot. Bourne stepped it up another gear and began to exhibit some of the control they had enjoyed in the first half. Marcus and Connolly did well down the flanks and Matt and Sam’s hard work in the middle broke up the Southam play. At the back, Harry was having a blinder and Bourne were determined to get the 3 points. With not long to go, an exquisite pass from Sam set Ben off and he completed a memorable hat-trick with another great finish. Sam went close with a long range free kick but the score remained at 3-2 until the final whistle. Bourne had produced a fantastic display with 10 men to defeat a very strong Southam side and as they walked off the pitch, they all saw Alex who had hobbled down to see the victory.
