COACHES VERDICT: Another Cup Final to look forward to, a solid Team Performance. Good to have 12 Players for a change. Special mention for James & Sam who both played with injuries & illness and Alex who came to support. A difficult season with injuries & players dropping out, but six points clear in the league & a final secured-testimony to the 12 players today !!
WELL DONE LADS. NEXT WEEK AT HOME 1.30 KICK-OFF MEET 1pm. |
Today Wellesbourne lined up for their 5th semi-final in 5 years as they faced Southam in a replay of the previously abandoned match. Although hampered by injuries and illness, Bourne mustered a side together with Cuttsy in goal, Will at left back with Harry and Franklyn in the middle. Jay started at right back behind Marcus and Sam was in the middle with George in the hole in front of defence. Rav was on the left with Jack and Ben up front. Matt was on the bench frantically checking the Villa score with his Dad! The game kicked off and immediately Southam threatened forcing an early corner which Cuttsy dealt with well. At the other end, a low Sam corner was met by Rav whose effort was initially blocked – Rav managed to swivel and poke the ball home at the near post to make it 1-0 to the Bourne – a fantastic start for the lads. This set the tempo and Bourne began to boss the game – Ben saw a shot well saved before Jacks through pass to Ben was cut out just in time. A good passing move in the middle set up Rav who unleashed a curling effort towards goal – it looked in but it crept just over the bar. Bourne were on top but needed a second to settle the nerves. Matt came on for Jamie and Bourne pushed for the second. Good work at the back from Harry thwarted the Southam strike force and Bourne were able to control the game in the latter third. A sublime through pass set Ben away and as he bore down on goal, there was only going to be one outcome – GOAL – 2-0 to Bourne. The game was still young and was by no means over – a fact that was re-iterated moments later when Southam had a great chance to pull one back – the striker put the shot wide and Bourne re-grouped. Good work from harry and Franks at the back held firm with Will also remaining strong. Marcus didn’t see much of the ball but made a nuisance of himself tackling well. George was marshalling the hole expertly and Southam were struggling to get through. The whistle blew for half time and Bourne held onto a deserved two goal lead. Southam came out flying in the second half and almost immediately got on the score sheet with a cracking drive – the ball smashed the inside of the post and bounced to safety. At the other end, a neat passing move fed jack who in turn laid it on for Ben – he clipped the ball into the corner to make it 3-0 but as the lads ran back – the Ref consulted with his linesman and decided to dis-allow the goal for a push. This bit of luck galvanised Southam and they nearly notched again – this time stopped by a brilliant Cuttsy finger tip save – he managed to push the ball onto the bar and gather the rebound saving a certain goal. It looked as though it was going to be one of those days for Southam and at the other end, Bourne put the game out of reach scoring a third. Sam’s cross shot was well saved by the Keeper but the ball fell to Matt who popped the ball into the empty net. With a quarter of the game left, Southam faced an uphill battle to save their cup final dreams. Bourne then put the game to bed by scoring a fourth – Jack drilling home from close range. Southam heads went down and George saw a shot saved and Marcus also went close. Southam pulled one back at the death but it was a mere consolation and Bourne emerged 4-1 winners, setting up yet another cup final. Wembley (Ajax) here we come!!!
