Home to Lillington no ref allocated by the league and stand in fails to turn up for a 2.30 kick off so coaches have to stand in.
A game of 2 halves with Wellesbourne Jekyll & Hyde to the fore. First half a group of individuals and too much negativity makes it hard work. A great strike from Josh gives their keeper no chance and Ollie through one on one is denied by their keeper. However, with a really tall player up front and lots more movement off the ball we concede 3 to go in half time behind.
The boys have a really open discussion during the break and go back on much more positive. There is lot of support and encouragement from each of the players. Crisp passing and a huge amount of tenacity in midfield and the boys fight their way back in to the match. A sweeping move with quick interchanging of passes gets the ball across the goal to Mal who sweeps home to make it 3-2.
The game is in the balance but you can feel the belief from Wellesbourne. Winning the ball in midfield, the ball finds it’s way to Mark who plays a delicious defence splitting pass for Ollie to run on to and finish past their advancing keeper to make it 3-3. It is a brilliant goal and worth the entrance fee but there is actually better yet to come. Lillington are frustrated to have let their lead slip and battle for a winner. One of their players breaks in to the area but Billy makes a double save at his feet, shepherds him away from goal, parries his cross away and somehow scrambles to the other side of the goal to make a 5th save in a matter of seconds – it is truly remarkable and guarantees us a point!
An impressive 2nd half performance with 2 outstanding moments but more importantly we played as a team and got our rewards, Well done boys!!
