U8's V Warwick Junior Eagles
Saturday November 18 2017Under 8's
In the first half most of the action was in Wellesbourne’s end. The match started off with good defending, George and Zack tackled their opponents well and Sam H made some great saves. Warwick Juniors Eagles managed to break through the defences and scored a goal. When the action moved to the other end Josh took a great shot but was denied a goal by Warwick’s keeper. With more action at our end the defending was on form with good turns and passing from Zack. Despite some fantastic saves from Sam H including a double save when Warwick tried to score from a rebound, they managed to score a second goal making it 2-0. With some more good tackling from Zack we managed to get the ball back and with a great set up from Josh, Ewan scored our first goal!
In the second half we had greater possession of the ball in Warwick’s end. Dylan made a strong start with some good runs and shots but their keeper kept the goals at bay. Liam showed some good footwork movement turning the ball keeping the other team working hard to get control. Joe remembered what they had practiced at training and tried hard to mark his opponent. Lewis and Dylan made a great pairing with faultless passing and teamwork. After a clear run Dylan nearly evened up the score but was prevented at the final moment and then Warwick managed to score again. With the score at 3-1 the boys didn’t give up or lose confidence, in fact the Dylan/Lewis pairing made a few more shots but each time just missed out on that elusive goal. Finally the teamwork paid off and the two boys gave us another goal but unfortunately that was to be the last goal of the match. Despite the streaming rain and biting cold the boys kept up the hard work right until the end of the match, which was extremely close and with the effort put in deserved to be a draw!
