Thursday November 30 2017Under 10's Falcons
This performance was proof of the way the team is developing, with the Falcons moving the ball intelligently from defence. Ned’s early forays down the right flank were impressive, his speed and skill outstripping his opponents. The opening goal came from Jack’s cross to the near post, which the opposition keeper spilled into the goal. The second goal came shortly afterwards. Jack showed determination to win the ball on the wing and chipped over the defence to Dylan. Receiving the ball, Dylan showed a lovely first touch and then slid the ball confidently into the bottom right hand corner. Jack made it 3-0, with a shot hitting the cross-bar, which the keeper struggled to hold. Wellesbourne took charge of the game. Charlie weaved his way through midfield, produced neat inter-play with Rory, whose shot was just saved. Harvey had a good effort from the edge of the box. Ollie and Harvey battled well together down the left wing, while Bobby was alert throughout the first half, cutting out any chances for the opposition and giving his team confidence to play forward – a true captain’s role. The half ended with a timely interception from Ollie, who was alert to the ball moving quickly across the goal mouth.
Wellesbourne pressed on in the second half. Tyler showed his pace, receiving the ball near the corner flag and slotting it enticingly into the danger zone. Ollie threaded a nice pass through to Rory, whose shot went close. Bobby (now in goal) pulled off a wonderful save, diving across his goal, to keep the ball out of his top left hand corner. A little later, Bobby scrambled across his goal mouth, to save the ball on the ground. It was not long before Wellesbourne, extended their lead, with Jack breaking though to beat the keeper, one-on-one. Tyler then struck the ball well, forcing an excellent save from the Warwick Juniors’ keeper. Rory showed determination, putting himself in good scoring positions. Rory had an excellent shot saved by the keeper. He also received a neat pass from Dylan, which came to him at pace, and he managed to get away a shot which went ever so close. The opposition keeper was then forced to make saves from Ollie and the left foot of Rory. Jack’s long range shot, was parried by the keeper and Rory showed good anticipation to slot the ball home. As the game drew to a close, Charlie played a beautiful cross-field pass to Tyler, who pushed the ball into the box, for Jack to finish. An excellent team performance and congratulations to Charlie, whose determined runs at the opposition’s defence, earned him this week’s ‘Man of the Match’ award.
