SAFEGUARDING
Our Commitment

At Wellesbourne Wanderers Football Club, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. As a grassroots community club, we welcome players of all ages and backgrounds, and we believe that football should always be a safe, positive, and enjoyable experience.

We take our responsibility seriously: safeguarding is not just a policy, it’s a promise to every child, young person, adult, coach, volunteer, and committee member who steps onto our pitch or engages with our club.

What Safeguarding Means to Us

Safeguarding is about:

  • Protecting children and young people from harm, abuse, or neglect.

  • Creating a safe environment where everyone feels respected and supported.

  • Promoting wellbeing for all members, including players, parents, coaches, and volunteers.

  • Ensuring accountability — every member of our club has a role to play.

Who Safeguarding Covers

Safeguarding applies to everyone in our club:

  • Players – from our youngest grassroots teams to our senior squads.

  • Coaches & Managers – who are trusted role models and leaders.

  • Volunteers & Committee Members – who help run the club and support our community.

  • Parents & Guardians – who are partners in creating a safe environment.

Our Safeguarding Practices

We follow the FA’s safeguarding standards and go beyond them to ensure best practice:

  • All coaches and volunteers are DBS checked and receive safeguarding training.

  • We have a Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) who is the first point of contact for any concerns.

  • Clear Codes of Conduct apply to players, coaches, parents, and committee members.

  • We encourage a speak-up culture — if something doesn’t feel right, we want to know.

  • Policies are reviewed regularly to stay up to date with guidance from the FA and local authorities.

If you have a concern

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. If you ever have a concern about a player, coach, volunteer, or committee member:

  • Speak to our Designated Safeguarding/Welfare Officer.

  • Contact a committee member if you’re unsure who to approach.

  • All concerns are treated seriously, confidentially, and with respect.

Our Promise

We are proud to be more than just a football club — we are a community. Safeguarding is central to that community spirit. By working together, we ensure that Wellesbourne Wanderers FC is a place where:

  • Children can thrive.

  • Adults can volunteer with confidence.

  • Families can feel reassured.

  • Football remains the safe, inclusive, and joyful game we all love.
